The LAE is a joint research unit of the Université de Lorraine (UL) and the Institut national de recherche pour l'agriculture, l'alimentation et l'environnement (INRAE).
It is located in Nancy-Brabois on the ENSAIA site in Lorraine and in Colmar on the INRAE site in Alsace. The LAE is attached to the UL's Agronomy-Food-Forests Pole and INRAE's AgroEcoSystem Department. The aim of the unit's research is to understand how plants, crops, agricultural production systems and territories function, with a view to improving their agronomic, environmental and bioeconomic management.
Our research activities, structured into 3 scientific areas, aim to produce knowledge and tools to assist the agro-ecological transition and support the development of the local bio-economy. They focus on the study of the functional interactions underlying ecosystem services and the management of these interactions from the plant to the territory.
These initiatives are driven by a number of scientific partnerships, as well as partnerships with players in the socio-economic world. Two companies have emerged from the laboratory's research and innovations: PAT (plant biotechnologies) and Maelab (territorial modelling).
LAE is included in a complex environment including INRAE, the Université de Lorraine and a large scientific network.
Key words: agro-ecological transition, ecosystem services, biodiversity, interaction ecology, macro-invertebrates, soil, rhizosphere and endophytic microbiota, specialised metabolism, biosolutions, bioeconomy, circular economy, modelling.
